Ubisoft has raised the price of some of its titles to US$70, following in the footsteps of other major publishers. The publisher's first US$70 release will be the new-gen console editions of Skull & Bones, which will not be accessible on last-gen systems.
Speaking to Axios, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillermot said the new pricing would be the standard for all major PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S releases in the future.
"Some of the games will come at the same price as the competition. The big AAA games will come at US$70," he said.
Take-Two's NBA 2K21 was the first current-gen game to be priced at US$70 in August 2020. Other firms, including Activision, Sony, EA, and Square Enix, followed suit, with the Final Fantasy publisher even raising the price of some of its PC titles despite being many years old.
Ubisoft stated last year that it was unsure about pursuing new software pricing prospects, but its position has subsequently shifted.
Ubisoft's recently announced that Assassin's Creed Mirage would be priced at US$50 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S ahead of its cross-gen release in 2023.
Recently we reported that the upcoming Ubisoft title Assassin’s Creed Mirage will feature loot boxes, hence the ‘Adult Only’ rating. However, Ubisoft has commented otherwise in regard to the rating.
